About Us

The program allows you to observe staff members in other institutions to gain insight into your area of interest. The visit duration is flexible, ranging from half a day to two days.

 

The program is available once a year, from June to December.

 

To apply, you need to complete an application form (via your institution), gain line management approval, and send it to your designated coordinator during the application cycle.

Eligibility

To participate in the shadowing scheme, staff members must have completed their probationary period and seek approval from their line managers. You can obtain information about eligible categories of staff in each partner institution by contacting the Designated Co-ordinator.

Confidentiality

Ensuring confidentiality is of utmost importance to us. Any knowledge or information gained during participation in Outside Insight that may be deemed confidential will be kept confidential between the parties involved. We assure you that no data that could be detrimental to either party will be disclosed to anyone else. All parties involved are expected to comply with the Principles of Outside Insight and Data Protection.

Work shadowing mutually benefits both parties involved.

Data Protection

  1. Your data will be safely stored in a database that is shared with designated coordinators.

  2. Data entered in the system is treated confidentially and disclosed only to Designated Coordinators and the external organization for work shadowing scheme.

  3. Your application data will be retained for up to two years.

  4. Your work shadowing experience may be referred to in the evaluation report and publications produced by the Steering Group, but all information used will be coded and anonymised.

  5.  Without your explicit permission, we will not share any sensitive personal data with the 'shadowing' university. Sensitive data includes ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, political beliefs, trade union membership, religious belief, and physical or mental health
